This second book in this series took the me on a really interesting ride. While seeking water for nlrton cattle Travis Fox enters a little known canyon in the Arizona desert and gets captured by three men, one of whom he recognizes as Dr. Gordon Ashe, an archaeologist.

The first few chapters introduce a new character and are the weakest part of the book. However it doesn’t do much more.

There are parts that move along, the beginning of Time Traders is good, but the middle becomes repetitive and the end cuts off a bit abruptly.

After getting used to Ross’s point of view during the first half, the switch to Travis in the second kind of threw me, and I nortln getting to hear Ross’s thoughts, but it was still an enjoyable read. When small-time criminal Ross Murdock drelict Apache rancher Travis Fox stumble separately onto America’s secret time travel project, Operation Retrograde, they are faced with a challenge greater than either could have imagined possible.

I liked how the author shaped the world and how even though most stuff was alien it still held some semblance to our world. Hence, I refused to even try because intentional failure was better than trying to succeed, only to fail every time. Story is unremarkable, characters are shallow, writing is competent. It never really rang true and pulled me out of the story and made me conscious of how often the story hinged on accidental happenings.

They visit a refueling station run by robots, a world of sand with some kind of hidden intelligent dangers, and another world with ruins of various buildings and life forms that are both friendly and dangerous. And the number of times the people got hit over the head or otherwise hurt pointed out some flaws in their reasoning. Once you get passed these it’s a pretty decent exploration adventure.
