The plot of this wonderful book is also so clever and engaging!
I won’t say another word. It sounds like another fun Heyer book. Men’s Breeches, Pantaloons, and Trousers. Kitty, on the other hand, doesn’t really grow or change except in relation to her understanding of, and appreciation for, Freddy. I suggest just giving into it for a week or two until the books start to blend together which they will. I liked her much better than Arabella, though. The title is clever as well, delineating the romantic entanglements that four couples dance through in the novel – with one couple being a surprise, last-minute addition.
She’s always deft with her handling of the handsome hero and pretty but destitute heroine plot, but Cotillion goes beyond the ordinary with lovely side characters and issues which all go to further the reality she’s taking Kitty — and us — into. He seemed remarkably real to me. The three great-nephews of irascible Mr. Kitty Charing stands to receive a great deal of money from her guardian, the wealthy and eccentric miser Mr Penicuik but only if she marries one of his grand-nephews.

Finding so young and pretty a girl as Amanda wandering unattended, Sir Gareth Ludlow knows it is his duty as a man of honour to restore her to her family. Miserly Great-Uncle Matthew is both frightful and frightfully rich.
If you are looking for a book to read during the Thanksgiving holidays, I cannot recommend Cotillion enough, for its conclusion is as satisfying as its very promising beginning.

Honestly, I wanted to step into the book and tell Kitty to go shopping with Freddy, by all means, to have him offer advice on hairstyles and accessories and drawing room furniture for sure – but really, to marry him? But as soon as Cousin Freddy comes on the scene, the book takes a most pleasant, comedic turn! Got no brains, of course, and I ain’t a handsome fellow, like Jack, but I love you. I’ll just add Kitty gains not just a kindly husband, but a loving family – which she has never had before.
Neither Sir Tristram Shield nor Eustacie, his young French cousin, share the slightest inclination to marry one another, yet it is Lord Lavenham’s dying wish. This got her into reading and listening to more Georgette heyer, and in a world of sex and violence, Georgette is a refreshing choice for all of us. In particular, the dashing rake Jack. And before they know it, it is no hyeer just a fake engagement And so Kit enacts his own scheme: Rich and handsome, the hope of ambitious mothers and despair of his sisters, the Marquis of Alverstoke sees no reason to put himself out for anyone. Freddy as the reluctant tourist was hilarious!!! A nonsuch would have known he was going to win, and therefore his willingness would not be as brave.

I realized as she grew that the plan was just naivete and not pure manipulation, and everything turned out well in the end. Even then it had seemed even drier and even cotillikn understated than Heyer’s other novels, but after Last Hellion and Wooster I had to read up on Freddy.
Mr Freddy Standen – the oldest son of a viscountanother of Georgdtte Penicuik’s great-nephews, a man about the town, who agrees to help Kitty take a jaunt to London under the guise of an engagement.
