This book feels very disconnected from the first and that’s not surprising considering it’s been written almost twenty years on from the Front Runner. I have a warning though. But in this book, it’s as if Billy barely existed. Most of the relationships we connect with in The Front Runner are shucked aside with Harlan’s Race and only confirm the fickleness of the stereotypical gay mentality. She wasn’t able to do it, so she wrote this one instead, as a bridge between the two books. So while it’s not a literary masterpiece, it does have an important corner in the the world of gay fond.
