It is only as Cadel builds a friendship outside Thaddeus’s control that he begins to wonder whether his genius is really sufficient reason to sidestep all of society. This book dragged on too much and I don’t have the patience for it; too many other books out there to read, so I won’t waste my time on a book I’m not enjoying.
Wow, James, what a compliment! After such a graduation, Thaddeus recommends Cadel to the Axis Institute. Part of the problem is that Cadel – who doesn’t narrate but whose perspective, if you can call it that, is the only one we get – doesn’t have much charisma, and his disinterest in other people makes him alienating without being interesting. Reaction to the novel was mixed to positive. Upon meeting a secretary with teeth the color of coal the book simply states, “Her mouth looked as if it belonged to an older, harsher century. I am now a Junior in college and i barely jonks to reading Genius Squad and Genius Wars, but after finally finishing the trilogy i wondered why you didnt write another one.
Unfortunately, that experience has never been repeated.
Cadel is such an admirable character because he was strong even though his whole life was a lie. YA also functions strongly as a marketing category, linked to the way evll book is formatted and distributed, and many titles have been extremely commercially successful over the past few decades with both younger readers and adults.
But anyway, the second little story was even better.
