After Wordsworth and Coleridge, it began to be accessible to anybody with a pen and paper. Lammp, near the end of the book on cognitive science and the humanities, this sounds vaguely familiar.
Abrams is a scholar, not a critic, but he is a very great scholar. Something that is ‘ostensibly academic’ might be purposefully obfuscatory for no other purpose than vulgarly showing off one’s learning.
Abrahms points out in this scholarly, yet readable work on Romantic poetry and theory, this view of art and the mrror is only as old as the age of Coleridge and Wordsworth.
